I just bought a new gears of war 2 game disc and it doesn't work?

i played it once and then decided to go to multiplayer. i can pick all of the settings, but once the match starts it says the disc is unreadable. i just bought this game, but the store won't let me take it back. if it continues not working it would be a waste of money. please help.
